Some believe 2012 is the end of the world. Some believe that we are all going to die a horrible death on exactly December 21, 2012. Something is going to happen on that date, but its not exactly what most people believe. Because catastrophic events are predicted, automatically people will cry the end is coming. But there are many things that aren’t known about the so called “Doomsday.”
By now I’m sure everybody has heard that the Mayan civilization has predicted something is supposed to happen, but they aren’t the only ones to predict this date. The Chinese method of divination called I-Ching predicts the catastrophic events on December 21, 2012.
The Cumaean Sibyl, which is Greek for prophetess, is also credited for predicting 2012. She is also noted for apparently predicting the birth of Jesus. The real Merlin of the middle ages, Mother Shipton, and the Hopi Native Americans are all credited with predicting 2012.
Lets take a look at what the Mayans really predicted for this date. They predicted that this date is the end of their calendar, not the end of the world. They, as well as other prophets believe this period is a change for the earth. What most people don’t know is the predictions of the Mayan priest Chilam Balam. He predicts not only the earth changing starting on December 21, 2012, but that their god Quetzalcoatl will return to help usher in the change. It is interesting to note that “quetzal” is a Mesoamerican bird, and “coatl” is serpent. Could the prediction of their serpent "god" be the antichrist making his appearance?
Even if you don’t believe in prophecies at all, there are supposed to be some scientific predictions that are going to take place. At this particular date, all of the planets are supposed to be aligned which will create what is known as a “pole shift.” Just as the name suggests, the earth will tilt on it’s axis causing the north and south poles to move out of their alignment which will intern cause massive amounts of earthquakes, tsunamis, and natural disasters. Scientists aren’t sure of how long this will continue, but most believe that it will continue between three to five months. It is also believed that a comet will crash into earth causing massive amounts of damaged.
This brings us to the most important source for prophecies, the Bible. Because the Mayan predictions are being jammed down everyone’s throats, very few realize that this is all in the Word of God. Because we know that December 21, 2012 isn’t the exact date of the end of the world, we know it will be the start of a period of trouble.
Daniel 12:1. And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.
Matthew 24:21. For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.
Jesus warned of some of the events that we would witness before his return-
Matthew 24:7. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
Luke 21:11. And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.
Luke 21:25. And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; 26. Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.
Many of the prophets that predict the events surrounding 2012 don’t go into as much detail as the Bible -
Revelation 6:12. And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; 13. And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind. 14. And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. 15. And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; 16. And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: 17. For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?
Revelation 8:7. The first angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up. 8. And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood; 9. And the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, died; and the third part of the ships were destroyed. 10. And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters; 11. And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter. 12. And the fourth angel sounded, and the third part of the sun was smitten, and the third part of the moon, and the third part of the stars; so as the third part of them was darkened, and the day shone not for a third part of it, and the night likewise. 13. And I beheld, and heard an angel flying through the midst of heaven, saying with a loud voice, Woe, woe, woe, to the inhabiters of the earth by reason of the other voices of the trumpet of the three angels, which are yet to sound!
