Second Coming

If one believes in Jesus and that he walked this earth 2,000 years ago, you must believe that he is returning. For every one prophesy concerning his first coming, there are eight times as many concerning his second coming. Unfortunately, we are experiencing the same problem as the first time Jesus was here. Very few people know that he is going to return, and even fewer understand the signs of his return.

Jesus stated many times himself that his return was going to happen. There is one chapter in each of the three synoptic gospels that’s dedicated to the signs of his return. Matthew 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21 each deal in great detail the warning signs that we must be aware of. The whole book of Revelation is about is second coming to earth. In chapter 19, he is shown coming to earth with all of his saints to set up the kingdom of Heaven on earth.

There was even confusion as soon as Jesus was raised from the dead and sat at the right hand of God. Many followers of the early church believed that Jesus would return any day to set up his kingdom. So Paul had to write to them to straighten things out. He had to explain that we are in the age of grace and that Jesus gave us specific signs to look for regarding his return.

These are just a few examples of scripture that refer to Jesus’ second coming.

Matthew 16:28. Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.

Matthew 25:27. Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury.

Matthew 26:64. Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.

Mark 14:62. And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.

Luke 19:23. Wherefore then gavest not thou my money into the bank, that at my coming I might have required mine own with usury?

Acts 1:10. And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; 11. Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

I Corinthians 1:7. So that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ:

I Corinthians 15:23. But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming.

I Thessalonians 2:19. For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming?

I Thessalonians 3:13. To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints.

I Thessalonians 4:15. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.

I Thessalonians 5:23. And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

II Thessalonians 2:1. Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,

II Thessalonians 2:8. And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:

James 5:7. Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain. 8. Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.

II Peter 1:16. For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

II Peter 3:4. And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

II Peter 3:12. Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

I John 2:28. And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.

Through all of the signs that are given to us, we still don’t know the exact day and time. That is why we must continue in faith until his arrival because not even Jesus himself knows the day of his return -

Matthew 24:36. But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
